Whole-House Air Filtration in Monroe Township, NJ

City Ventilations installs media filter cabinets and replaces filtration equipment for compatible ducted HVAC systems. The return duct and available cabinet space help determine which filter can work with your equipment’s airflow.

What are you trying to change indoors?

Particles carried through the ducts

A suitable media filter captures some airborne particles as return air passes through it. Dust and pollen are common reasons to discuss an upgrade. Results depend on the selected filter and how much air actually reaches it.

Stuffy rooms or a need for outdoor air

A particle filter does not introduce outdoor air. If ventilation is the concern, describe the rooms and when they feel stuffy. A planned fresh-air supply has a different job from recirculating air through a filter.

Odors or gases

Particle filtration is not a general answer to gases or odor sources. Name the odor and where you notice it so any equipment discussion starts with the source and the pollutant it needs to address.

Moisture or visible mold

A filter cannot correct the moisture source that allows mold to grow. That problem needs attention at its source; installing a filter cabinet does not resolve it.

The cabinet needs room. The blower needs airflow.

A deep-media cabinet changes more than the filter thickness. Its dimensions and connection to the return duct affect how air enters the equipment. Check the space in front of the door, too. The entire filter has to slide out without being bent against a wall or pipe.

We consider the existing return opening and the equipment it serves when discussing an installation. A narrow connection can limit the benefit of a larger cabinet. Gaps around the media can let air pass around it instead of through it.

For a replacement cabinet, include what is wrong with the current arrangement. A door that will not close, an awkward access path or unavailable replacement media can change the choice of the next housing.

Tell us if a filter change has been followed by whistling or weaker airflow. A different cabinet or media selection may be relevant, but the symptom alone does not identify the cause.

Choose the filter rating with the system in view.

MERV describes particle capture. It does not describe the whole installation.

A higher MERV rating indicates higher capture efficiency for most tested particle sizes. The filter still has to fit the cabinet and work within the airflow limits of the connected equipment. Two filters with the same rating can have different resistance.

Pressure drop is the resistance air meets as it passes through the filter. Compare the proposed media at the airflow the system needs. A deeper pleated filter may provide more media area, but its depth alone cannot tell you that resistance; the product’s performance data can.

The EPA advises using MERV 13, or the highest rating the system can accommodate. That is a compatibility question to resolve for your equipment, rather than a reason to put a denser filter into any existing slot.

What to include in the installation estimate.

Existing arrangement
Identify the furnace or air handler, filter location and return connection. Note any clearance limits around the equipment.
Cabinet and media
List the selected housing and the exact replacement filter specification, including size and rating. Confirm how the access door will open.
Associated work
Identify any duct transition or sealing work included in the price. A cabinet added to an existing system and one installed with new HVAC equipment can involve different work.
Handover
Ask for the filter model, airflow direction and manufacturer’s replacement guidance. Confirm how the installed cabinet’s fit and effect on airflow will be checked. Keep the media information near the equipment for the next filter purchase.

Plan for the filter changes you will make later.

Accessible media filter cabinet beside HVAC equipment

Leave yourself a usable access route.

The cabinet door and withdrawal space need to remain clear after installation. Storage boxes or shelving placed in front of the door can turn a simple filter change into an awkward job.

Use the specified replacement media and follow the equipment instructions. The nominal size printed on packaging may not tell you every dimension, so keep the model information rather than relying on a rough measurement.

Use the manufacturer’s interval as the starting point.

Check the filter as instructed. Pets, renovation dust and seasonal conditions can affect how quickly it loads. A deeper filter does not automatically last a full year.

Before choosing a cabinet, check where its replacement media can be bought and what each filter costs. That recurring expense belongs alongside the installation price.

These are owner-use considerations for the equipment we install. Our offer covers installation and replacement of filtration equipment; scheduled filter-change and HVAC maintenance contracts are outside that scope.

What happens when the HVAC fan is off?

Central filtration operates when air moves through the system. Fan settings can affect filtration time, electricity use and cooling-season humidity. Discuss the appropriate setting for your equipment instead of assuming continuous fan operation is always better.

Follow the air path room by room. An addition served by a separate mini split does not automatically send its air through the central media filter. The same limitation matters when a home has separate upstairs and downstairs HVAC systems.

About City Ventilations

Questions about whole-house media filtration.

Can a media cabinet be added without replacing my HVAC system?

It may be possible if the existing equipment and return arrangement can support it. The available space, connection work and airflow requirements need review. Send photos of the filter location and the surrounding area.

Will it remove all the dust in my home?

No. The filter captures particles that reach it in the airstream, with performance depending on the media and installation. Settled dust and ongoing sources still need ordinary household cleaning or source control.

Does this work with ductless mini splits or boiler-only heat?

A central media cabinet needs a compatible ducted air system. A ductless wall unit or a boiler’s closed heating loop does not provide that return-air path. Tell us if the home has a separate ducted cooling system.

Will one cabinet cover a home with two HVAC systems?

A cabinet filters the air passing through the system it is connected to. If two separate systems serve the home, both air paths need to be considered. Send photos of each filter location so the estimate covers the areas you want to treat.

Can you promise allergy relief or germ elimination?

We do not guarantee an individual health outcome. For a specific filtration or air-treatment product, review the manufacturer’s performance documentation and the conditions under which it was tested.

What determines the price?

The cabinet and media selection, available access and any required connection changes affect the installation cost. A project estimate should make those items clear before the work is scheduled.

I cannot recommend City Ventilations enough. I was in a very stressful situation after a previous contractor left my HVAC installation incomplete and improperly connected at my rental property, leaving my tenant without AC during hot weather. Vitali, Harry, Igor, and Brandi stepped in and handled everything with professionalism and expertise from start to finish. They quickly identified everything the original contractor had done wrong. Then they corrected all of it, got the system running properly, and provided a detailed written scope of work documenting their findings. On top of the quality of their work, their communication was excellent throughout the entire process. Brandi was incredibly responsive and helpful on the administrative side, and the technicians were knowledgeable and thorough on site. They turned a nightmare situation into a resolved one
